Indoor padel courts at Padel House NZ Wellington

Wellington has one dedicated padel facility: Padel House NZ in Kilbirnie, founded by Luke Neira and opened in February 2025. With four indoor courts, professional coaching, and a rapidly growing community, it is the home of padel in the capital.

Padel House NZ — Wellington's Padel Courts

Padel House NZ is located at 48a Kemp Street, Kilbirnie, Wellington. The facility is about 10 minutes from the CBD and close to Wellington Airport, making it easy to reach from anywhere in the city.

Courts and Facilities

Why Indoor Courts?

Wellington's wind is world-famous for a reason. Any outdoor padel facility in the capital would be at the mercy of the Nor'wester and Cook Strait southerlies. Padel House solved this with a fully enclosed indoor venue. Every session runs in consistent conditions regardless of what the Wellington weather is doing outside.

Rain, wind, or shine, the courts are playable. This is one of the biggest practical advantages Wellington's padel scene has over outdoor venues elsewhere in New Zealand.

Booking and Pricing

Courts are booked through the Playtomic platform, accessible via the Playtomic app or website. You can see real-time availability and book up to a week ahead.

Peak times (Thursday evenings, Saturday and Sunday mornings) fill up quickly. Book ahead or join the WhatsApp group to find casual games with other members.

Getting There

Padel House NZ sits at 48a Kemp Street, Kilbirnie. From the CBD, head south on Kent or Cambridge Terrace and follow Taranaki Street through Mt Cook. Kilbirnie is about 10 minutes by car. The number 2 bus runs along Coutts Street nearby. Dedicated parking is available on-site.

Court Availability and Session Types

The courts run a mix of open booking, social sessions, and coached programs throughout the week.

Open Court Hire

Book a court through Playtomic, bring three other players, and play freely. Great for regular groups who want to organise their own games at their own pace.

Thursday Night Social Mixer

The weekly social mixer runs Thursday evenings from 6:30 PM. No need to bring a partner. The organiser pairs players at similar levels, rotates partners each match, and keeps things moving. At $15 per person including court and balls, it is the most popular entry point for Wellington padel players. Full details here.

Coached Sessions and Workshops

Monthly beginner workshops run on the last Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM. Group clinics and private coaching are available throughout the week. See coaching options.

Wellington vs Other NZ Padel Cities

Wellington currently has one padel club. Auckland has eight venues across the region. This concentration means Wellington's padel community is tight-knit and the courts are genuinely busy — Padel House NZ filled quickly after opening and has maintained strong demand.

As demand grows, additional venues may open in the Wellington region. The Lower Hutt, Petone, and Kapiti Coast areas are logical expansion points. For now, Kilbirnie is where Wellington padel happens.

Padel vs Tennis vs Squash Courts

For anyone wondering how padel courts compare to other racket sports: a padel court is smaller than a tennis court (20m x 10m vs 23.8m x 10.9m), fully enclosed with glass and metal walls, and uses a specific artificial turf surface. The combination of walls and enclosed space creates padel's unique gameplay. You cannot play padel on a tennis or squash court — it requires the dedicated enclosed structure.

Ready to Get on Court?

The quickest route to your first game is the Thursday night social mixer. Turn up, pay $15, and the organiser handles the rest. No partner needed, no equipment to bring, and you'll meet the Wellington padel community from your first session.

For complete beginners who want to learn the basics first, the monthly workshop is a better starting point. Read the Wellington beginner's guide.
